Mandeville Website Seeks Sponsors
A Jamaican web designer is currently sourcing sponsors to help him revive and promote a fledging website about his beautiful hometown.
Mandeville, Man, January 29, 2007- Mandeville is one of the beautiful towns in Jamaica. Home to an estimated 50,000 people, Mandeville has benefited greatly from the nearby bauxite industry and also has the highest concentration of returning residents to Jamaica.
Located on a plateau 2000 ft. in the Don Figuero Mountains, Mandeville has grown leaps and bounds in the last twenty years and is a major center of commerce and business activities. Mandeville is unique in being the only parish capital in Jamaica that is not built on a plain or near the seacoast.
Celebrated for its salubrious climate, rolling hills and fabulous mansions, Mandeville is also home to the Northern Caribbean University. NCU is a melting pot of different nationalities and cultures from all over the world and is the only university located outside of the capital Kingston.
Several years ago, local web designer Nicholas Dixon created WWW.Oceanroc.com with the purpose of showcasing his hometown to the world. Oceanroc.com is the recipient of several awards and was popular amongst its users until it went offline in December 2005.
"My financial partner pulled out and I basically put the website in hibernation", says Nicholas. "I have been seeking sponsors but I have received mainly promises", continues Dixon when ask about plans to revive his website.
Before it went offline, Oceanroc.com received hundreds of visitors daily and had a popular guest book amongst other features but no pictures. That's right. The website had only content but the words used painted a unique picture of the town.
Mandeville is the birthplace of Jamaica's community based tourism and offers an attractive alternative to sea and sand. Crime is relatively low and though located in a rural setting, it boasts all the amenities of civic life.
